Andy Johnson, a member of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame who played quarterback for the University of Georgia before several years with the New England Patriots in the NFL, has died at the age of 65.

Johnson was the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1971-1973 and led them to two bowl victories and a 25-10-1 record. he was then drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round of the 1974 NFL Draft.

He played seven seasons with the Patriots, amassing over 2,000 yards rushing and over 1,800 yards receiving, playing a pivotal role on several playoff teams. He also played one season with the Boston Breakers of the newly-formed USFL.

He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and is also a member of the Athens Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also Georgia Letterman's Club.
