A Gordon County man is facing serious charges after he allegedly rammed a police cruiser several times while trying to flee a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
The incident happened just after midnight when a deputy initiated a traffic stop near Calhoun.
The suspect, identified as 35 year-old Santiago Alberto Franco Marquez, fled the scene and as a Georgia State Trooper was attempting a box maneuver to get Marquez to stop, he crashed into the police cruiser at the intersection of Harris Beamer Road and LaVista Drive.
The trooper got out of his vehicle and Marquez allegedly continued to strike the cruiser. The trooper then fired a single shot into the driver's side window of Marquez's vehicle.
Marquez escaped through the passenger side window and fled on foot. He was tased and apprehended a short time later.
Marquez has been charged with Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Attempting to Elude, and other traffic violations.
No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
