Crews rescued several birds and a puppy from a fire at an apartment complex in DeKalb County early Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 12:45 a.m. at the Westgate Manor apartments on the 5000 block of West Mountain Street in Stone Mountain.

Investigators believe the fire began in a kitchen area of one of the units and spread to three others. In all, four units sustained significant damage.

14 people have been displaced as a result and no injuries were reported. Crews also were able to rescue several birds and a puppy.

The Red Cross is assisting the residents who have been displaced.
