The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood WARNING for Cobb, Douglas and Fulton counties until 3:30 p.m.
The warning is for areas in southern Cobb, northeastern Douglas and southwestern Fulton. The NWS says two inches of rain has already fallen in the area and two more inches are expected.
Locations that could experience flooding include: Atlanta, Douglasville, Smyrna, Powder Springs, Austell, Lithia Springs, Sweetwater Creek State Park, Jim R Miller Park, Chapel Hill, Six Flags Over Georgia, Campbellton, Bolton, Mableton and Vinings. This warning also includes portions of the Chattahoochee River and associated tributaries.
If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
As for the rest of the week, widespread rain and non-severe thunderstorms are likely. Temperatures will not be as hot, with highs in the low 80s through the weekend.
