Carolyn Young, the wife of Ambassador Andrew Young, along with her family released an update on Ambassador Young's condition after he was hospitalized over one week ago.
On Sunday, May 6, Ambassador Andrew Young was on his way to deliver the baccalaureate address at Fisk University in Nashville when he became ill and was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Once stabilized, he was transported to a medical facility in Atlanta where he could continue treatment surrounded by friends and family.
Since then, Ambassador Young has been examined and diagnosed by physicians, and is undergoing treatment. He has shown tremendous progress and we are confident that his condition will continue to improve. However, it will take time and lots of rest for him to fully recover. He has been encouraged to clear his schedule for the foreseeable future so that he can focus on his health and wellbeing. This will help him regain his full strength, so that he can continue his lifelong fight for justice and equality for all.
We are grateful for the concern and prayers of each one of you in the Ambassador’s Atlanta and international family. We humbly request that you allow him the time and space to heal and refrain from calling or visiting him. We will provide you with more information when it is available, but until then, we ask you to please respect his privacy.
Faith & Love,
Carolyn Young and the Young Family
